Lost in the Flame

Awake amidst screams of fears,
Screams of pain that compose tears.
Red demons dance on the walls,
Raging in blood down the halls,
Paint melting and the wood burning,
Death approaching.
Rise from comfort into fright,
Find cover and try to fight
Through the demon’s defenses,
Through the infernos and the mazes.
Descend down an engulfed stairwell,
Towards safety, towards hell.
A burning beam,
Blackened and agleam,
Crushes the leg and breaks the bone,
Scream for aid but collapse alone.
The fire approaches to execute.
Voices this beast must mute,
His touch burns the skin,
The scorching man of sin
Calms screams and closes eyes.
The ominous cloak looms for his prize,
Death was the solitary mission.
In the fire, everything was taken,
The spirit, the body and the name,
Everything was lost in the flame.
