That Which Feeds On Your Darkness

It lies within your lurking,
Hiding deep in the shadows of the mind,
In the darkness left behind
By dreams left festering,
Silently waiting.

Ominous eyes glow in the dark:
Red with the flame of rage.
This jailed monster in its cage
Yearns to be set free - so hark -
The beast’s bark.

This devil cannot be captured,
One can only hope to restrain.
But this action I would refrain
For if you bait this creature and it is lured,
Vengeance is assured.

It will come upon you with such force
All cranial defenders will be annihilated,
For on the darkness this beast fed,
Discarded from the mind with much remorse,
A retributive course.

So leave this devil in its cave.
Seldom let it stray from the abyss
And enjoy freedom’s bliss.
Allow him in the light for sanity save -
Be brave.

But the nature it has adorned
Should serve to remind of the danger
Of this ominous monster,
Entice and silently keep restrained.
Be warned.
